CEO and Founder, Susan Scanland MSN, CRNP

Susan Scanland is a board certified nurse practitioner who has devoted her career to caring for patients and families dealing with Alzheimer's disease. For the past 30 years, Susan has managed clients with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias in long-term care and assisted living facilities, and on house calls. She currently consults at a long-term care center in Scranton PA, where she evaluates residents and can make dementia recommendations for the medical and nursing staff. Susan taught family practice resident physicians for 12 years at the Wyoming Valley Family Practice Residency in northeast PA.

Susan received her MSN degree and completed the adult nurse practitioner program at University of Pittsburgh in 1981, where she published her thesis on dementia and Alzheimer's disease. She graduated with a BSN from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre PA in 1979. She has been board certified as an adult nurse practitioner since 1982.

Susan founded her business, GeriScan GeriScan in 1999. She has presented over 500 seminars in 40 states on Alzheimer's, other dementias, and related topics, including workshops for caregivers. Recently, GeriScan incorporated as an LLC, and rebranded as Dementia Connection™. Susan has presented at many national health care meetings, including the American Society for Aging and the Assisted Living Federation of America. She belongs to the National Speakers Association and she is completing application criteria for their CSP designation (Certified Speaking Professional).

As the author/editor of an electronic newsletter for health care providers, the Dementia Connection™ E-Newsletter, Susan publishes the latest dementia research for nearly 10,000 subscribers around the globe.

Susan published articles in geriatric and gerontological nursing journals, co-authored a book chapter, has given radio interviews, and appeared on Alzheimer's television specials. She is currently completing a book dealing with prevention of Alzheimer's and vascular dementia.

She is a member of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, the American Geriatrics Society, the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, Honor Society of Nursing, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Susan resides in Clarks Summit PA with her husband and two sons.
